Are you planning to elope and in need of a photographer to capture your special day? Hiring a photographer for your day can be daunting, especially if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. There is a big difference between a photographer that offers elopements and a photographer that specializes in elopements.
As someone that specializes in elopements, it’s the only thing I offer. Because of this, I know how to ask the right questions. I know how to set up a timeline catered to your specific needs, the permit process for parks and locations, and I know how to give you an elopement experience.
A photographer that simply offers elopements but does mostly traditional weddings, can be amazing. Because they don’t do it often though, they are typically stuck in the “traditional wedding” mindset and may struggle to give you the intimate and simple elopement experience you are seeking.
Traditional wedding photographers also focus a lot on posed and structured photos. They’ll likely refer to a timeline to get them done in time (ie formal family photos and cake cutting). While elopement photographers focus on candid and natural moments throughout the day. You likely don’t have a strict timeline to stick to so it’s easier for us to let the day flow naturally while capturing the meaningful details.
Another key difference between the two is that elopement photographers are experts on their locations. They are there frequently and know the ins and outs. They know the best times of year, the lighting, the popularity, the restrictions, etc. Photographers that don’t frequent a certain spot may not know that the flies hatch in July and you’re going to be eaten alive if you choose to do your ceremony there!
If you are planning on eloping, it’s definitely important to hire a photographer that is an expert in elopements!
